Historic mansions, gardens and stories that preserve the memory of another era in Barranquilla.
El Prado brings together architecture, urban heritage and stories that shape Barranquilla’s identity. Its residences, landmarks and tree-lined streets reveal the city’s transformation throughout the 20th century.

Inaugurated in the 1920s, El Prado became a landmark of Colombian urban planning and one of Latin America’s pioneering planned neighborhoods. Its wide avenues, gardens and residences inspired by international styles reflected Barranquilla’s economic boom and its transformation into one of the country’s most dynamic cities. The neighborhood also connects with the history of aviation: in 1919, SCADTA (Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transportes Aéreos), considered the world’s second-oldest commercial airline and a precursor to Avianca, was founded in Barranquilla. During this walking tour, we will explore mansions, landmarks and stories that reveal the city’s role in urban planning and commercial aviation, connecting Colombia with the world.
